Avalanche Awareness Training CPD Courses

AVALANCHE AWARENESS TRAINING – WEBINARS

The Chris Walker Memorial Trust in partnership with the Scottish Avalanche Information Service is again convening CPD webinars that will inform and refresh our knowledge of how to avoid avalanches in Scotland this coming winter. Overall these one day webinars will require six hours of an applicant’s time. Each webinar will have a maximum of 12 and a minimum of 6 places available. Two days are again sponsored by the Association of Mountaineering Instructors for which the CWMT trustees are very grateful. These AMI dates are primarily for WMCI and WMCI trainees. Other dates are open to anyone who has attended a WML training course or above.

As online webinars, only a good internet connection is required, so if you are off to warmer climates cragging, make sure you take your laptop with you.

Programme

This online course prepares leaders, instructors, and guides for the coming Scottish winter season. The one-day online course will include a review of the Be Avalanche Aware process, a revision of Avalanche Problems in the Scottish context, a discussion on how the SAIS operate and how to use the different aspects of the SAIS website.

In addition, a series of exercises and discussions will help develop understanding of snowpack evolution and avalanche hazard development in various weather scenarios. These are the foundation skills for making good route planning decisions prior to going on the hill.

There will be a strong emphasis on discussion and participation allowing various topics to be aired throughout the day. Some pre course self-study will be provided and is an integral part of the workshops.
